Forest Song

Trees so thick they block the sky
Birds fly high above
A forest creature passes by
Another one in love.

The winds that blow the leaves on high
Make the forest seem
Alive as if it gave a sigh
As is pondered me.

I continued walking down
That quiet forest path
I found a glade that was crowned
By pretty Farisath.

Then I lay down within that ring
Of flowers ocean-blue
And with my voice began to sing
My heart's feelings true.

I sang of grass a vibrant green
And open spaces wide
For all the beasts who'd never seen
The forest's other side.

When my song at last was done
My voice had faded away
I saw some beasts had gathered and come
Clear as the light of day.

Their hides were all an even grey,
Their wings too fast to see
And high into the trees, I say
They disappeared from me.

To this day I have no proof
Of the sight I saw
But from atop my Southern roof
I watch the forest raw.
